Marion married in 1912 to a Brisbane doctor named David Gifford Croll; after war was declared both enlisted in the forces and served during the Gallipoli Campaign (Hamilton, 2015). Marion became not only well known for her service as a nurse, but also for her photography during the Gallipoli Campaign.

Marion enlisted as a staff nurse with the Australian Army Nursing Service on November 11th 1914; she was 28 years old, alongside her husband David. She embarked on board the HMAT A55 Kiyara on December 21th 1914 and arrived in Egypt.

Marion served in Egypt at the 1st Australian General Hospital, based in the Heliopolis place hotel. Her duties, along with the other nurses, was to help wounded Australian soldiers in the Gallipoli Campaign. During the war, Marion unfortunately developed pleurisy, (an inflammation of the tissues that line the lungs and chest cavity), and was returned to Australia. She arrived on the January 28th, 1916 after travelling on the Kanowna. Marion was discharged as medically unfit in 6th of June, 1916 (Trove, 2017).

Upon her return to Australia Marion became the first secretary of the Queensland War Nurses Fund, which provided assistances to nurses who had served in Gallipoli; she also became a Queensland Guides Commissioner and a Red Cross Society member (Hinchliffe, 2016).

Approximately 180 photographs were taken by Marion during her time in Egypt, "The photos ... are lovely touristy shots taken around Cairo," (Hinchliffe, 2016), and were mostly taken in Cairo. Images included many of the nurses who served at the Aboukir Rest Home and ANNS (Trove, 2017).

Marion’s life came to a tragic end when she was a passenger aboard the BOAC Lockhead plane that crashed at Kallang Airport, Singapore on 13th of March 1954; she was 67 years old (Trove, 2017). Marion and her husband David did not have any children.
